Leadership development and strategy consulting are booming. Why? Have our leaders lost the plot? Or is something more interesting going on?

Our research, done over many years across many countries and organisations, has found that three key interlinked issues are driving complexity for leadership:

  • The context within which leadership is practiced has changed far faster than we have been able to change our fundemental assumptions about what leadership is. More details.

  • Organisations have become far more fluid and complex, moving away from hierachical structures to inter-linked networks.  Such a trend away from determinism is part of a wider manifestation. More details.

  • Changing times and increasing organisational fluidity has led to most organisations playing a charade where leaders pretend to know, followers pretend not to know, and a huge amount of time is wasted. More details.
