Organisations are fast evolving from the traditional functionally divided, hierachically layered type to a more flexible matrix.  This matrix evolves into an even more fluid complex adaptive network......
This evolution from a deterministic way of leading an organisation towards a more non-deterministic approach is part of a wider trend that can be seen in many fields.  For example in science there is a similar trend; this is where Chaos Theory and Complexity Science were born.
